This is without a doubt the worst take I have ever seen. I agree that economically Thatcher did well. To debate against that area of her leadership is futile. It is what she did socially that alienated the people. I hate what British politics has become now, with the personality and popularity contest it has now become. However, you can cure an economy by telling people to ‘simply work harder’, yet this is not necessarily what is best for the country. We read many historians yet give no more emphasis to the Marxist ones than any of the rest. The economy is not all that matters and sacrificing all else for that is wrong!! Unemployment, education and health are just as important as growth and taxation. What she did was an abandonment of the people socially.
